Philosophy:

We stand for every teen, young adult, parent and family member being able to create a life of joy, community and personal responsibility. We know that young people can build lives of confidence, courage and compassion with the direct 1-1 support, love and commitment of adults, be it their parents, coaches or mentors. Our philosophy stands on the bodies of work associated with William Glasser, Adult Development and Learning Theory, positive psychology systems, neuro-linguistic programming, and humanistic psychology.

Components:

Our Advanced Coaching Course is a ten month program featuring two (3-day) intensive training sessions, one at the start and one at the end of the course. We combine onsite training sessions with field assignments, distance learning as well as interaction with a personal coach, coaching teams, Training CD’s, and actual clients.

How does your program address:

- Learning Competencies

Attendees will:
Master the basic conceptual frameworks of the coaching process so that they can 1) think and perform as a professional coach, 2) understand how to set up a coaching business and 3) coach and teach others with skills based on the ICF 11 Core Competencies as well as advanced ontologically based coaching systems.

Become thoroughly grounded in an understanding of adolescent development cycles, parent/teen relationships, how a developmentally based coaching program takes the client(s) to a sustainable, profound new level of communication and personal development.

Acquire specialized coaching expertise in coaching teens, young adults, parents and families in such a way that they can also take this niche specialty and expand it to other areas of focus as a template.

Increase their own intuition, personal relationship skills, communication, understanding of human beings including self, awareness, choice making, and compassion.

- Integrating Coaching competencies into everyday life

Each participant, in collaboration with the trainers and assigned coach, constructs and executes an individualized coaching program for themselves. As a coach in training, participants also take part as a “client” in our workshops and programs, experiencing their own success in the role of “client.”

- Self-mastery

Accepted participants are already involved in a related professional platform, such as teaching, counseling, education, consulting, training, social work, 12 step, agencies, other areas of coaching, sports, religion, positive youth development or any other work that is human-service based. Our students are self-directed, mature adults with significant life experiences. They complete their learning assignments at their own locations in-between the residency requirements. Once they graduate as certified family coaches, they competently adapt their learnings and coaching skills into their chosen applications in coaching, training, public speaking, teaching, administration and/or any other related area where they may experience success with their newfound coaching skills.

Format and location:

Our face-to-face “Intro” and “Go Forth” 3-Day Workshops integrate dynamic, professional presentations with solo work, partner work, large group processes and designing action plans. Experiential learning takes place in these profound workshops. Guests/clients are present to be able to observe coaching and teaching using our models. In between the live sessions, participants continue learning through teleclass interaction, buddy support study calls, personal coaching relationships, individual reading and three case studies.

Our ten-month, two (3-day) intensive training sessions occur in 5 Locations around the world, featuring the USA, UK and Australia. We utilize local hotels, which offer comfort and residential amenities.

Class Size:

We accept 20 participants in each of our Family Coach Training Certification Programs. We have five entry points a year. Currently they are held in Sydney, Australia; Cambridge, England; and in the USA: New York, New York; Albuquerque, New Mexico and Portland, Oregon.

Facilitators:

What is unique about your program:

At The Academy for Family Coach Training, we believe that a comprehensive training experience is fundamentally about learning how create our own sustainable learning and outcomes. We believe that a competent coach requires skill development in the following four areas, which we call the Four Pillars of Learning:

1) Philosophy (knowing from whence we coach historically and philosophically. 2) Basic Coaching Skills (based on the International Coach Federation Core Competencies. 3) Advanced Coaching Skills and Systems (based on the ontologically based theories of coaching as well as the Parent as Coach - Seven Ways to Coach.) 4) Business Tools (we feature both basic and sophisticated business tools, designed to help you introduce coaching to a world still learning about what benefits it can offer.)

Each adult is learning on five simultaneous learning levels, called Learning Tracks, using accelerated learning techniques, adult learning theory and learning models based on the Kolb Learning Cycle and Neuro-Linguistic Programming.

Is there a particular emphasis of Coaching you offer:

Our program creates Certified Family Coaches with competency in coaching teens, young adults, parents and families. Our participants may also use our templates of coaching to create new niche based coaching programs, workshops and speaking engagements. We teach our participants to synthesise a blend between open-ended coaching, curriculum based coaching and teaching.
